The World That Specializes in Shaming Genuine Ministers of the Gospel

The world that we are living in does not value genuine ministers of the gospel. It simply thinks of them when it is convenient for the world to benefit from their gifts.

Apostles, prophets, pastors, evangelists, teachers and other lay ministers are viewed with serious suspicion everywhere they go. And yet these are the people who carry the presence of God, and represent God’s interests on the planet earth.

Dr. Peter Ferdinand Drucker is arguably the greatest management think-tank ever to walk on this planet earth. In his twilight years of equipping modern and future leaders, he had a comprehensive recorded narrative interview with Steve Sjogren where the following quote (paraphrased) is taken:

“You know Steve, over the years I have made a career out of studying the most challenging management roles out there. After all of that I am convinced the two most difficult jobs in the world are these: one, to be the President of the United States, and two, to be the leader a church like yours and Rick Warren’s, where you start it then lead it to serve others in greatness. Again, after spending some quality time with you all, I am convinced of this: the most difficult job is being one of those kinds of pastors”.

Dr. Drucker represents a very rare breed of people, especially earthly leaders, who really understand and appreciate the role of a minister of the word of God. Leading and managing people on earth is very tough, but leading people to God is an even more complicated task! It demands huge sacrifices, skills and commitment to accomplish the same.

But if genuine ministers of the gospel are such important and significant figureheads, why does the society, its leaders and even presidents frown at them? Why are they treated as thrash? Why are they viewed with gullibility when they move around? Why are they classified amongst questionable characters of this world?

When a managing director gets a Lamborghini company car worth $500,000 the society easily accepts him, but when an apostle gets just $500 as a monthly allowance there is so much outcry in the corridors.

When a board chairman gets a $20,000 annual holiday experience he is viewed as worthy of the company’s investment, but when a prophet gets $600 worth of local groceries the whole city treats him as a crook.

When a government minister sends his daughter to a $10,000 worth of primary school the whole city claps hands and ululates for him, but when an evangelist’s kindergarten child gets a bicycle present worth $50 the father is described as greedy and fleecing his church congregants.

When a musician surprises his wife with a $200,000 wedding anniversary diamond ring he is praised as loving and romantic, but when a pastor buys his wife a $150 gorgeous outfit the outcry is so loud, disturbing and deafening.

When a university professor gets a $50,000 gratuity package they say he has worked for it, but when a teacher of God’s word receives $1,000 honorarium the whole region will gang up and report as a ‘suspect’ to the anti-corruption commission.

This is how unfortunate the people who work in the Lord’s Vineyard are. They are always treated as second-class workers who should only suffer but without a reward. The world is always ready to pounce and shame pastoral figureheads even when they are genuine and innocent in their endeavours.

Ladies and gentlemen, let it be known that God loves the prosperity of his servants. It is a taboo for ministers of the gospel to live in poverty as some people think. These people represent an Almighty God who is rich in everything, and who chose them to be blueprints to be followed by other believers.

“Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause… Let them say continually, let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of his servants” – Psalm 35:27.

“Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers” – 3 John 2.

When you are distressed you need a minister of the word.
When you encounter horrific scenes, the pastor guides you along a better path.
When you are facing death, you need a prayer from a minister of the word.
When you die, it is only the pastor who is authorised to preside over your funeral and the interment of your human remains. Don’t be fooled.

Ministers of the gospel are people who, just like us, have numerous sins lying before God. The only difference is that God chose, assigned and deployed them to work in a unique way. Their genuine success should be a blessing to everyone associated with them.

Genuine pastors, let them eat from the same coffers that are benefitting from their earthly assignments.

With love and thanks!
