Showing Patience, Gratitude and Humility Even In Smaller Things

Gratitude is a lifetime character and spirit that can breed and unlock golden doors for you in life.

Paying homage has the power to move you to echelons that even money and connections cannot.

One colleague had this to say to us:

The job market was tough and oversubscribed. I was so desperate to get something ‘big’ that will prove to the world the impact of my academic and professional qualifications.

Within that trying moment, I did not manage to get a good offer. Instead, I ended up accepting a job where the salary barely covered my basic monthly financial obligations. It was disheartening to say the least.

As the days went by, I started feeling angry, undervalued, unfulfilled, being used and forgotten by both people and God. The job was a huge contrast to what I had envisioned for my life given the huge investments I had made into my academic and professional development.

Then one day as I sat feeling sorry myself, it dawned on me that just a few months earlier I had no job. I was completely grounded, and I had no alternative source of income. My financial obligations then were staring at me straight into my eyes and the empty pocket. A few months earlier I was actually a burden to myself and others!

From that very moment, my perspective of life changed drastically. I fell on my knees and immediately started thanking God for his grace and provision over my life. I began paying homage to God even for the anticipated future breakthroughs that I had no hint on.

This was a much needed life lesson. I had to learn patience, gratitude and humility! This realization set me up for an extraordinary elevation a few months later on when I received an unexpected lucrative job offer with an unbelievable salary and benefits. The offer came without much effort from my side.

Through that experience, I learnt to be grateful with the little that comes my way, patiently waiting for an elevation which would come at the right moment. I was humbled through my suffering and pain as I waited for something bigger and better to come across my path. But it still needed me to be grateful and appreciative of the little that was in front of me. Only then was the blessing of the mega triggered over my life.

Experiences like these are meant to bring the best out of us. Once we become disempowered and living at the very age, it becomes easy to appreciate the road that God has travelled with you. And when you appreciate that which you have, your elevation is just a moment away.

As the scripture says in Luke 6:10, that: “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much”. For you to receive much in future, you need to learn to be a good and faithful steward on the little that God has entrusted you with.

The Apostle Paul also reiterates the need for good and faithful stewardship in all our endeavours: “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful” 1 Corinthians 4:2. Once you get the trust to execute a mandate on smaller assignments, do it very well with great commitment, gratitude and humility. Only then will God elevate you to higher levels!

May God help us to appreciate the “small” so that he triggers the “big” ones to come our way.
