Dear Parents/Guardians – Not Every Child Is Gifted In Academics

Sometime ago, students were about write their end of year exams. With an understanding of the potential impact of the children’s results, the Principal wrote a letter addressed to all the parents, guardians and teachers. It underscored some very important points for every one of us to understand.

Dear Parents, Guardians and Teachers

The exams of your children are to start next week. I know you are all very anxious for your children to do well. But please do remember, amongst the students who will be sitting for these exams, there is an artist who does not need to understand Mathematics that much. There is an entrepreneur who does not care much about History or English Literature. There is a musician whose Chemistry final mark will not matter much in his field of placement. There is a sportsperson whose physical fitness is much more important than their final grade in Physics.

If your child does get top marks, that will be great for sure. But if he or she doesn’t, please do not take away their self-confidence and dignity. Tell them it is still ok because it is just an exam. Confide in them that they are chosen for much bigger assignments in life. Assure them that no matter what their final scores will be, you always love them and you will not judge them based on that. Please do this, and when you do, watch your children conquer the world.

One exam or low mark will not take away your children’s talents, dreams and visions. If every child is properly supported, they will grow up to become stalwarts in their fields of calling.

With warm regards

The Principal

Life Lessons:
Exams are important, but they are not everything. Grades are good, but they do not define everything about you. There is so much more potential right inside of you. And as the great Albert Einstein puts it, “Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing that it is stupid”. Don’t let other people’s metrics of success become yours.
