Personal Reflections # 1 – The Strength To Manage Grief And Trauma

Grief and trauma permanently change us. This is the big reality of life.

Everyone born into this world is bound to come face to face with incidences of grief and trauma, at varying degrees of impact.

There is no such thing as getting over grief and trauma. The five stages of grief model are there to make us accept the loss and move on with life. But the reality of it all is in fact much bigger than that.

A major life disruption leaves you with a completely new way of life. It will be tough at first but eventually you will learn to accept it and move on. There is no going back to the old self. It is not possible. You are different now, that’s the brutal truth.

This issue is not entirely meant to be viewed from a negative angle. Healing from grief and trauma may also encompass finding new habits to occupy your personal space, the joy that comes with enjoying such and the strength built along the way.

The goal of managing grief and trauma is not an effort to preserve or present things as normal. It is a way to acknowledge the ushering in of a new life. There is better wisdom and understanding on your part to be able to assist others passing through the same.

At the end of it all, managing grief and trauma will require God’s grace. Without God in the equation you may end up doing the unthinkable.

You need God; you need His Grace in order to win the battle with grief and trauma.
