Profit versus
Purpose | The Case of Peter’s Boat and Jesus Christ
In a season; you may have given up. You could be washing
your nets on something that God wants to use as his platform. Maybe, just like
Peter, the boat you are using today for fishing is not necessarily meant for
that purpose. Just like Peter, your mind be focused on profit (fish) while God
has earmarked the same boat for a special purpose (pulpit).
You really need to change your vision to get to
understand some of these things. Peter was washing his nets and boat because he
was seeing his situation and capacity based on history. His history told him that
it’s possible to go for fishing and go back home empty handed! History provides
an important yardstick for the future, but sometimes it is counterproductive
for future progress and success. When you only see your life from the
perspective of what you have already done, and possibly failed; then you are
unlikely to see other things that you can accomplish with the same resources! You
seriously need to re-envision your situation from a different perspective.
When a woman wears her blue skirt and a white
jacket; she will always be tempted to think that’s the best combination for
that outfit. She could become content in it because she always sees it based on
her past experience. When she takes a look at all those portraits and photos that
were taken of her in that outfit combination, she becomes content that there is
no other better way of mixing the two. But, she could be shocked the moment she
decides to try the same blue skirt with a yellow top! There could be a totally amazing
combination there that be worth a prize and a thousand descriptions!
Your vision is the one that limits your expression.
When you look around in life, you will see very successful couples that are
made up of individuals that were once used and discarded in their earlier
relationships. You can turn around society and see bastard children that grew
up to become chief executive officers of international corporates! Turn around
your head and see maids that have grown up to become successful doctors and lawyers!
Turn around your neighbourhood and you will see some criminals that were once
incarcerated as ‘D’ Class prisoners but have now been born again to become
great pastors, ministering powerfully and impacting generations! The Apostle
Paul is one such perfect biblical example.
Before you think that your situation is now irretrievable;
why don’t you take a look of the same situation from another perspective? You could
be running after profit on a boat whose purpose is for preaching! Think
seriously about this, and change your perspectives.
