Responsibility – 30 Fundamental Rules of Life to Teach Your Son (Part 2 of 2)
Ordinarily, a child is expected to grow up with
both parents around. Nevertheless, because of other circumstances of life, the
case may not be so. But where a biological father (or stand-in father figure)
is around, you need to take ample time to teach your children the fundamental rules
of life. And in particular to your son, the following are the fundamental rules
that he must grow up well equipped on:

16.
Experience the serenity of travelling alone. Sometimes, when you are alone, your strength is renewed as you begin to
see the other missing links.
17. Never
be afraid to ask out the best looking girl in the room. A real man should not be afraid to say out
his mind and approach his desires in life; with wisdom of course!
18. Never
turn down a breathe mint. Take
time to analyse people’s offers. You may badly need them in future. Not every
offer is bad for you!
19. A
sport coat is worth 1000 words. Be a person who is able to discern the value of things in life. They will
make you stand out from the rest.
20. Try
writing your own eulogy. Never stop revising. You are the best person to tell your story. Don’t allow every Jack and
Jill to define you.
21. Thank
a veteran. Then make it up to him. It is important to recognise people of rank. They have seen it all
before you. Having them around adds a lot of weight to all your endeavours.
22. Eat
lunch with the new kid. Having
a youngster around you is a blessing. They look up to you for guidance and
leadership. Pull them closer to you, and show them you love them and recognise
whatever they are trying to achieve in life.
23. After
writing an angry email, read it carefully. Then delete it. In short, as much as you may be hurt in
life; do not be in the habit of throwing venom at people. Once you spit it out,
you may regret for the rest of your life. People might not even have the
patience to understand why you did it in the first place.
24. Ask
your mom to play. She won’t let you win. Mothers are masters of life-changing tips. When they have a point, it
has to come through! Listen and pay attention when you are conversing with
them.
25.
Manners maketh the man. Always
strive to display good and exemplary behaviour. That’s integrity. It may win
you many silent battles and admirers without even knowing it.
26. Give
credit. Take the blame. When things
go wrong, if you are the man in charge there, learn to take full responsibility
and accountability. Do not be a leader who seems to throw your subordinates
into the deep end. But where there is credit, give it to others and be the last
to claim it.
27. Stand
up to bullies. Protect those bullied. A man should be protective of the vulnerable. That’s leadership.
28. Write
down your dreams. Everything that
is not well documented is difficult to accomplish. Like God, put all your
dreams plain on tablets for ease of managing and assessment.
29. Take
time to snuggle your pets, they love you so much and are always happy to see
you. When you are home, embrace
your pets with full love. They are part of your family, and should enjoy the
gentle touch of their master.
30. If
ever in doubt, remember whose son you are and REFUSE to just be ordinary! It is important to be reminded that you were
born into this world for dominion and influence. That is the original intention
of God as documented in Genesis 1:26-28. Never should you think of yourself as
a second class citizen. Stand up shoulders high and claim your stake in this
cut-throat world.
May God help you raise sons that are responsible
to take over after you! May they grow up on great wisdom and understanding; and
be ready to perpetuate genuine fatherhood in their lives.
