God’s Sovereign Abilities: The Case Study Of Moses and The Israelites

When God appointed Moses to be the Deliverance Prophet (Exodus 3:10), He never pre-emptied the complexities involved in the task ahead. Reading through the Book of Exodus; you wonder how Moses managed to succeed in his assignment. This was a Herculean task for any natural human being o undertake. However, it also became a perfect platform for God to showcase his divine managerial abilities. Let’s take a look at the complications surrounding Moses' assignment:

God’s Sovereign Abilities: The Case Study Of Moses and The Israelites

Basic Complications:
Moses and the children of Israel were in the desert, but what was he going to do with them? They had to be fed, and feeding 2-3 million people requires a lot of food. Let's have a look at the approximate statistics:

(a). According to one Quartermaster General in the Army, it is reported that Moses was supposed to have had 1,500 tons of food each day for him to feed the Israelites. In order to bring all that food it would require two goods trains, each at least one mile long (1.5 km).

(b) Moses was in the desert with the Israelites; so they needed firewood for cooking the food. The cooking process would consume about 4,000 tons of firewood. This means a few more freight trains would be required for that.

(c) They faced all these adversities for all the forty years they were in transit. This translates to 14,600 days.

(d) Being in a desert they would have to fetch water to use every day. If they only had enough to drink and wash a few dishes, it would take 11 million gallons each day. A freight train with tank cars 1,800 miles long (2,700 km) would be required just to bring that water.

Further Complications:
In addition to the basic feeding complications; Moses had the following problems to solve as well:

(a) The Israelites had to across the Red Sea at night. Now, if they went on a narrow path, double file, the line would be 800 miles long (1,200 km) and this would require 35 days and nights to get across. So there had to be a space in the Red Sea stretching 3 miles wide (4.5 km) so that they could walk 5,000 people abreast to get over in one night.

(b) But then, there was going to be another big problem!! Each time they camped at the end of the day a campground; two-thirds the size of the state of Rhode Island was required (750 square miles or 1,688 square metres). Think of it. This much space for camping only.

Now do you think Moses had figured all these complexities before taking up his assignment. The answer is NO!

Life Lesson:
When God gives you an assignment; He knows exactly what you require for fulfilling that purpose. Do not be disturbed by the seemingly insurmountable task ahead. Do what is within your capability; the rest put your faith in God to solve them.

Whenever the going gets tough; HE KNOWS. He will respond accordingly to address your issues. Stay blessed.
